What’s Up Thursday
What’s Up Thursday (also called WUT) started as a small meeting for Experience Designers, but came with a faithful followership. Early attendees loved what it was all about: an informal air that lent to connection, tons of fun extras like downloadable playlists, and best of all —deep learning that elevated their craft in design.
When I took over the role of leading WUT, I asked: what could this be at the next level? Within a 6-month span, we had expanded into a weekly, enterprise event that amplified what made it so great. WUT became a cultural icon at Capital One, with other lines of business — and even external companies — contacting us to see how they could copy our success.
WUT I added 😉 :
- A content-first approach, with an Editorial calendar and monthly themes, aligned to leadership vision
- An expanded marketing strategy, with monthly teaser videos parodying the movie Anchorman
- A digital team-space featuring sound bites, takeaways, and audience reactions
- Branded speaker templates and prep documentation
- Integration across other live events and podcasts
Result: One of the leadership’s goals was to champion Experience Design across the business. By leveling up our sights and applying a content strategy to engage partners, we build an iron-strong and recognizable brand for the team’s mission and culture.
